My name is Emma,. I’m a reformed lazy girl, and I know what it feels like to be overweight, stressed out and unhappy.
In 2002, I was all of those things. I quit my job as a television writer and spent the next four weeks holed up inside, watching every wrestling pay per view Blockbuster had on their shelves. And then one day I left the house to run an errand for a friend. By the time I came home, I’d enrolled in a course to become a personal trainer – it was the first time I’d ever been inside a gym, I’m still not sure why I did it, but it’s the best decision I ever made. I didn’t know it then, but I’d found my true vocation.
Since then, I’ve worked with hundreds of different people, each with different requirements. In the early days, the main focus was weight loss. I loved helping people achieve their goals, but I felt like there was more to physical improvement than just dropping kilos, so I studied yoga teaching and massage therapy and developed a unique approach to fitness.
Finding new ways to develop strength, enhance posture, and improve chronic issues makes getting up at 5am totally worthwhile. Learning more about the way your individual body works is my passion. Everyone has a unique history of movement, – which means every journey to strength is different. Your strengths, weaknesses and goals will set the tone for the path we choose. Your recent history is important too. If you’ve had a great night’s sleep and a strong espresso on the way to the gym, I’ll train you differently than if you rock up exhausted. If your program fits like your favourite jeans, you’ll be able to maintain those changes forever..
Anyone can hand you weights and count reps but you need something more than that to really motivate and educate you. Find a trainer who loves what they do, and is dedicated to helping you improve more than just your appearance and you’ll be able to do things you never thought possible.
